Unabashedly nerdy for science fiction & fantasy, politics, science and history. And opinions! Man, I got so many opinions, I had to rent out a warehouse for em all.
Sometimes NSFW. Just putting that out there. 18+ only.

“You know Wesley, we both have something in common.”
“What’s that, sir?”
“We both have been inside your mother.”

This is actually a big continuity error. Picard wasn’t bald when he was in the Academy.

And had hair ten years before he assumed command of the Enterprise.

Continuity errors, y’all.

TNG - The Drumhead. One of the best scenes in television!

You know, there are some words I’ve known since I was a schoolboy: ’ With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.’ Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie as wisdom and warning. The first time any man’s freedom is trodden on we’re all damaged.”

TNG - Measure of a Man. One of my favorite episodes. A scientist named Bruce Maddox wants to disassemble Data so he can figure out how to build more, even though there’s a risk he might fuck up and kill Data. He refuses, but Starfleet orders him to surrender himself, so Data quits. Starfleet rejects the resignation on the grounds that Data is property and not a person. So, a trial takes place to determine whether he’s a sentient being. Picard is chosen as Data’s lawyer, but Riker is chosen and forced to prosecute the case, or else have the judge rule against Data.

Riker almost wins and hates himself for it. He goes at it from a technical standpoint that Data is essentially nothing more than a complex machine. He makes such a strong argument, that even Picard admits he probably won. What saves Data is a scene where Picard is sulking in Ten Forward and Guinan consoles him and points out that if Maddox does succeed in replicating Data, he could create a whole new workforce for the Federation. Specifically, Guinan insinuates that such a workforce would essentially be slavery.

The video is of Picard’s closing argument where he basically destroys Maddox’s position that Data is nothing more than a machine. Brilliant episode.

I would rather serve under Picard than Kirk.

One of the greatest moments in Trek. Picard had been captured by the Cardassians while he was on a secret mission and tortured by the Cardassian that was talking to him in the clip. And by torture, I mean actual torture, none of that pissy ass smacking him in the face or anything. Picard was shackled from the ceiling, stripped naked and left to hang there all night and also had a device surgically implanted in his chest that allowed his interrogator to cause pain with the control Picard was trying to smash.

The thing with the lights was from the Cardassian trying to get Picard to say there were five lights when there were actually only four. At the end of Chains of Command Part II (this episode), Picard is talking to Troi about what happened to him and he reveals that if the guards hadn’t come in when they did, he was going to say he saw five lights. They almost broke him.
