“I am 22 years old. I am a college student and will be receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a concentration in Human Services. I came for a small town that was built on Furniture Factories. Both of my parents dropped out of high school to work in those factories. My parents are divorced and I have three sisters, ages 18, 20, and 24. My father was laid off from a high supervising position when the factories in our town closed down. He took job opportunities when he could, but most were only temporary and he would be let go once the work was done. He is now unemployed. The job opportunities are very scarce in our town. My oldest sister dropped out of the UNC Chapel Hill, at the age of 18, and moved back home because she got pregnant. My younger sister, age 20, also got pregnant at the age of 18. I never considered anything but college because college was the only way for me. I have worked since I was 15 years old at various jobs, not because my parents told me to, but because I knew if I wanted anything I would be the one to pay for it. I do not feel entitled to anything that I have not earned. I pay my own bills, without any help from my parents even though they would do as much as they could to help me if I asked them. I consider myself an adult and feel that those are my responsibilities not my parents. Once I graduate I plan to take any job I can get with no complaints because in this economy you cannot be picky.
Once I graduate I will owe 18K in student loans.
I will be the first out of my family to finish college.
I am the 53%. “
Can please someone send this girl a link to wearethe99%?
Maybe we should send her to Oz, maybe the Wizard can give her a brain.
Yeah. Send her there. Waste her afternoon with reading of a complete lack of organization. She simply doesn’t want to be arbitrarily lumped into your cause, even IF she does fit into that salary bracket. By the way, over 50% of our taxes are paid for by the 1%… should they be more? I doubt most of you have even looked at the figures.
Oh noez, looks like we pissed off a wannabe defender of the rich! Shit guys, we may as well give, for he will surely slay us all with his flawed arguments! Woe is us! Quick, someone get the smelling salts and a mint julep, I feel the vapors coming on.
Please. Destroy my argument with sarcasm and lack of rebuttal. I’m being serious. I see all these posts on Tumblr tearing down people who took the time to develop their reason and stance. By people who are themselves fed up who I would think would understand being fed up. People are looking down their noses at these 99% who don’t want to be counted… the same way you percieve the 1% looking down on you. Snobbery begotting snobbery. And every day I read more than the average supporter of this will admit to reading. And I visit your sites. And there is very clearly a lack of organization - only a general frustration with the distribution of wealth. We are all entitled to our opinion… but if the rich are paying over half our country’s taxes and all you can express is that they have more than you and you want that to change, but without changing what you’re doing… is that not greed at it’s most literal? The wrongs I can see that are being committed are tax fraud, evasion, illegal filing of bankruptcy and THOSE need to change. But how can you fault others for earning that which they make if they either went to school for it or inherited it from their family? And if school should be free, how should it be paid for? By more coming from the paychecks of those who studies their asses off or who’s families worked hard to give it to them? I am not defending the assholes who cheated to get it. That comes down to a matter of regulations enforcement and that I can get behind. But I cannot get past a bunch of online hipster anon entitled prats with no idea of what they believe in telling a girl to get a brain simply because they disagree with her. Forget logic, reason and a plan… sarcasm and lack of research will do in a pinch, no?
Blah, blah, blah, blah, people are being mean to the rich, stop being mean to the rich! Yadda, yadda, yadda, people are dumb for reasons, blah, blah, blah, blah.
In other news: I don’t give a shit what you think.
But you want to lump me in with your 99% to take other people’s money because you’re a dumbass who doesn’t know what you’re talking about? I doubt the Doctor would back that, asshole.
First off, I wouldn’t lump you in a pile of bullshit and the run off from a papermill, because it would be an insult to the latter two. Second, I want to take people’s money? News to me. I didn’t realize advocating that the rich and corporations pay their fair share in taxes to help maintain the infrastructure, public services, etc. they use everyday, or helping to pay for a decent education and health care for their fellow man was amoral. Boy, that’s going to come as a shock to a lot of people.
But no, you’re totally correct. I mean, who needs paved roads or bridges and tunnels that don’t collapse, right? Fuck education too, you don’t need to know any to dig ditches or work in factories. If people get sick and can’t afford to go to the doctor or pay for medication? They can just die.
Now if you’ll excuse, I have to go apologize to the 1%, read Ayn Rand, and remove this pesky soul.
